About PetGearScore
Smart pet devices promise to make life easier for you and better for your pets, but the market is crowded with gadgets that overpromise and underdeliver. Most owners don't have time to test ten automatic feeders or pet cameras before buying. That's why we built PetGearScore.
Who Runs This Site
PetGearScore is run by one person, not a newsroom. There is no editorial team, no test lab, and no roster of staff reviewers. Everything published here is desk research: reading spec sheets, putting comparable devices side by side, and working out what the numbers mean for a household with an animal in it.
We do not have hands-on access to the products covered on this site. We have not opened them, run them, or measured them. Where an article describes how a product behaves, that description comes from the manufacturer's own documentation, from published third-party results, or from owners who have written publicly about living with it -- never from testing of our own. Our methodology page sets out exactly which sources we use and how the PetGearScore™ is calculated.
Our Mission
We help pet owners make informed decisions about automatic feeders, pet cameras, self-cleaning litter boxes, GPS trackers, water fountains, and smart pet doors. Every product we recommend goes through a thorough evaluation process that considers reliability and safety, app and connectivity, ease of use, durability, and real-world user experiences.
How We Review
Our review process is straightforward. We research manufacturer specifications, analyze independent testing where available, compare pricing and any ongoing costs such as subscriptions or replacement filters, and aggregate publicly reported owner feedback. We look at the full picture -- not just the sticker price, but the total cost of ownership over years of use.
The PetGearScore reflects the metrics that actually matter for pet tech: reliability and safety so the device works when your pet depends on it, app and connectivity for remote monitoring and control, ease of use for setup and daily cleaning, durability against chewing and accidents, and value per dollar. No fluff, no filler -- just the facts you need.
What We Don't Do
- We don't test products ourselves, in a lab or anywhere else.
- We don't accept free review units, and we don't take payment for a place in a ranking.
- We don't have a sponsored-content or paid-placement program.
- We don't present a score as a measurement. It is a comparison built from published specifications, and the methodology page is explicit about where that breaks down.
